pROGRAM
The Combine and Pro Day are not just about the stopwatch. Scouts also line prospects up for position drills, watching footwork, hands, hips, and instincts up close. At Impact Sports Performance in Novi, Michigan, we train those drills directly, so what shows up on tape looks like what shows up in the drill line at the Combine.
Training is coached by Jim Kielbaso and our position staff, working with the same standards Michigan Football uses to prepare its own NFL Draft prospects.
Position drills are a chance for scouts to see skills that a 40 time or a bench press number cannot show. Every position group is judged on its own criteria.
Skill positions (WR, DB, RB): Route precision, footwork, hip fluidity, hands, and change of direction.
Big-skill positions (TE, LB, edge): A blend of technical footwork and drills that test power, hand use, and space coverage.
Line positions (OL, DL): Get-off, pad level, hand placement, and short-area quickness in drills like the mirror drill and bag work.
Across every group, scouts are also watching for something drills cannot fully script: instincts, body control, and how naturally the movement comes to you.

Every athlete starts with an assessment so we can see your position, your drill background, and where your technique needs the most work.
01
Drills are broken down step by step and repeated until your footwork is clean and repeatable under the pressure of a live evaluation.
02
Hand placement, hand-fighting, and catching or blocking technique are trained to match what scouts look for at your position.
03
Skill and big-skill athletes train the cone, mirror, and reactive drills that show hip fluidity and body control in space.
04
We coach to the standards scouts actually use, so athletes understand what is being scored and why, not just what the drill looks like.
05
Athletes work with coaches who specialize in their position group, rather than a single generalized drill program for every athlete.
Every plan is individualized and organized by position group. This is an example of how a drill-focused week may be structured.
| Day | Focus | Example Work |
|---|---|---|
| Monday | Footwork Fundamentals | Position-specific footwork patterns, drill breakdowns at reduced speed |
| Tuesday | Speed & Power Support | Acceleration and power work from our Speed and Power programs |
| Wednesday | Hands & Technique | Hand placement, catching or block-shedding technique, technical reps |
| Thursday | Change of Direction | Cone drills, mirror drills, reactive footwork at full speed |
| Friday | Live Drill Simulation | Full-speed position drills run in a Combine-style evaluation format |
Our athletes train indoors on turf with access to weight rooms, on-site nutrition, and medical support, all under one roof. Out-of-town athletes can train here while staying at nearby hotels.

Yes. Skill, big-skill, and line positions all work with coaches who specialize in their group’s drills and evaluation standards.
Yes. Scouts weigh drill performance alongside testing numbers, so clean technique adds to a strong 40 time or jump.
Speed and Power build the physical qualities behind your testing numbers. Position drills apply those qualities to the technical movements scouts actually evaluate.
